# AI Speaks First

> Configure whether the AI opens the conversation immediately after the call connects.

By default, the AI waits for the contact to say hello before speaking. Turn on **AI Speaks First** to have the AI open the conversation immediately after the call connects.

## First message

When AI Speaks First is turned on, you can configure a **First message**. That is the exact wording the AI says at the start of the call. If left blank, the AI generates an opener based on your call script.
